Q: I spend so much time every morning fixing my hair and still fall short of the lasting results I want. How do I get the most out of my styling efforts?

A: From Joelle Ray, co-owner, master stylist/educator:

Follow these simple basics to achieve more from your everyday styling:

(1)  If your hair is too wet, you will dilute your products’ effectiveness. So make sure you gently towel-dry your hair before applying them.

(2)  Distribute your styling product(s) evenly throughout your hair. Make sure you’re getting up and underneath, into the roots and along the lengths. You don’t want your product(s) to be concentrated in one area.

(3)  When you blow-dry your hair, concentrate on the root area first. Your hair’s amount of volume and the direction of your hair style is a direct result of how you dry that area. It is crucial to dry the roots of your hair first because the ends will follow.

(4)  Go a little “Tina Turner.” Make your hair bigger first thing in the morning than you may be comfortable with because gravity works — it will fall, right where you want it, as the day goes on. People usually fix their hair how they like it, then by the time they get where they’re going and encounter their first mirror, they’re disappointed with the fullness.
